An Introduction

As of Fall Quarter 2005, use of all Schoenberg Practice Rooms will be managed by the new online Practice Room Reservation System, as provided by the Music Facilities Services Fee (MFSF). To reserve practice rooms using this system (even if you currently hold a practice card), you must purchase a Basic MFSF Card along with a reservation package at Student Services, located in 1642 SMB. Reservation packages for 5, 10, 15, or 20 hours may be purchased. Practice rooms may only be reserved Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm.

The cost for a Basic MFSF Card that allows you to use the Schoenberg Music Building facilities for practgice is $50 per quarter. The costs for reservation packages are an additional $30 for up to 5 reserved hours per week, $50 for up to 10 hours per week, $70 for up to 15 hours per week, and $90 for up to 20 hours per week. You may purchase a MFSF Card in the Schoenberg Music Building Student Services Office in Room 1642.

If you have purchased a MFSF Card, you may practice in any open practice room, however if someone shows up that has that room reserved, you must give the room up to that person.

How to Use the System

The online Practice Room Reservation System (PRRS) allows current practice card holders to reserve specific practice room facilities at specific times throughout the week, on a repeating weekly schedule for the duration of a quarter. The system works much like URSA, where you enroll in classes. Each student is assigned one or two reservation passes, the priority order of which is determined by your class standing, major, instrument, and course enrollment. When your reservation pass begins, you can log in to the system and start reserving rooms.

*The following instructions assumes you have already purchased a reservation package, and are thus granted access to the system. If this is not the case, you must purchase a reservation package at 0000 SMB*

To access the system, point your web browser to http://www.music.ucla.edu/mfsf. Click "login" on the far right of the toolbar. Log in with your SID/pin or BOLid/password. You will be sent to a view of your current schedule, which should be empty if this is the first time you have logged in.

If you have difficulty using the ISIS Login, please connect using the UCLA VPN and then login to MFSF.

Check your Reservation Passes

To check the date and time of your reservation passes, click "Check Reservation Appointments". This will show you the dates/times of your pass or passes. If you purchased a reservation package of more than 10 hours, and have a "first pass" and "second pass", you will only be able to reserve 10 hours during your first pass. You will use your "second pass" to reserve the remaining hours.

Add a Room Reservation

Verify that your reservation pass has started (see above). To add a practice room reservation, click "Reservations", then click "Add Reservation". This will present you a list of the rooms in Schoenberg. You may use the filters to only show rooms of interest to you. Clicking "search" will query the room schedules and present you a list with available rooms based on the day and time range you provided. Click a room to view its schedule. To reserve an hour block in the room, click any "open" block. You will be notified of a successful reservation, or any potential problems with your request. Repeat this step to reserve as many hours in a given room as desired. Click "Back to Room Listing" to return to the room listing so you may select another room.

Remove a Reservation

To remove a practice room reservation, click "Reservations", then click "Remove Reservation". This will present you with your schedule in red. Click any red "remove" block to unreserve that particular block of time. Your account is immediately refunded for that hour.

View your Schedule

Click "My Schedule". This will show you your current schedule. You may click on any room you have currently reserved to bring up that room's schedule.

Print your Schedule

Click "My Schedule", then click "Print Schedule". This will generate an Adobe PDF of your schedule that you may print for your convenience.
