When and where can I purchase a MFSF Card?

MFSF Cards may now be purchased in the Department of Music Student Services Office from Ed Blancarte in Room 1642 of Schoenberg Music Building or in the Department of Music Office SMB 2539.

What is the purpose of the fee?

The Department of Music has had substantial cuts made to its budget, and will no longer be able to fully subsidize the maintenance and CSO supervision of practice areas in Schoenberg Music Building (SMB).

I only practice in the Percussion Studio and the three percussion practice rooms. Do I need to purchase a MFSF Card?

Yes, all areas within SMB used for voluntary individual and ensemble practice, including practice rooms, classrooms and studios, will require the possession of a MFSF card.

I am a member of a string quartet that practices in a practice room or classroom. Do I need to purchase a MFSF Card?

Yes. At least one member of the quartet must have a MFSF Card.

Will I be able to practice in classrooms that are not being used?

There will be certain classrooms designated as practice areas at specific times on a first come/first served basis.

How many practice rooms are there?

Approximately 26.

Will I only be able to practice during the times I have reserved?

No, you will be able to use practice rooms that are not occupied at any time.

What if a practice room is reserved, but no one is in there?

If you have purchased a MFSF Card, you may practice in any open practice room, however if someone who shows up that has that room reserved, you must give the room up to that person. The best way to avoid that happening is to reserve the hours you need.

How many hours can I reserve a practice room for?

You can purchase a 5, 10, 15 or 20 hour card. You may only reserve up to 10 hours on the first pass. Everyone who purchases a Basic Card for $50 will be able to reserve two hours of practice time using the Online Practice Room Reservation System without an additional fee.

What if I forgot to bring my MFSF Card? Can I still practice?

Yes, you may use your BruinCard as a substitute.
